Naturopathic Medicine

Imagine this visit to your health care professional's office

You enter an inviting, comfortable waiting area.  After a very short wait, you are greeted by your naturopathic doctor and enter the consultation room.

As you begin your visit, you will have a chance to tell your health story for perhaps the first time. There is no rush, and your naturopathic doctor (ND) is genuinely interested in, and trained to listen to what you have to say.

As you investigate your health concerns with your ND, you will begin to understand how your body works, and what it needs for it to work better. Your naturopathic doctor will create a treatment plan tailored just for you that not only strives to relieve your symptoms but addresses the root cause of why you developed them in the first place.

If this sounds like the kind of health care you’re seeking, contact our clinic to set up an appointment or a free 15-minute introductory session to meet Dr. Shawn Yakimovich and find out more about how naturopathic medicine can help you feel better.

Naturopathic principles

The practice of Naturopathic Medicine is guided by the following principles:

First, to do no harm

To co-operate with the healing powers of nature.

To address the fundamental causes of disease.

To heal the whole person through individualized treatment.

To teach the principles of healthy living and preventive medicine

The naturopathic approach is to first fully understand the person, including their experience of health as well as disease. A naturopathic doctor considers the whole person, inquiring about physical and emotional symptoms, diet, stress levels, sleep, and both personal and family health history.

An assessment is made through detailed questioning as well as physical examination and laboratory testing where indicated.  Natural therapies are then chosen in order to stimulate the body’s ability to heal itself. Treatments may involve diet recommendations and clinical nutrition, botanical (herbal) medicine, homeopathic medicine, physical treatments, acupuncture, or lifestyle counselling.
